The Cause: I believe I may have discovered the cause. Someone somewhere mentioned that they suspected it might be a file locking issue. In my case, I use an app called TapeMachine Recorder. I record a voice message, then select Share, then via Gmail. I now believe the cause of the problem was that the app still remains open with a copy of the same file open. And I get the "hung on Sending forever" situation. Now, I follow the same steps, but.... as soon as I send the file via Gmail, I immediately open a new blank document (select New Recording) - effectively closing the current recording file - and bingo! I haven't had the problem again since. Conclusion: Whenever you send something out as a Gmail attachment, be careful to then immediately close that document -- or make sure that any apps that may have it open, close it. Remember, on Android, apps don't close.... so exiting the app is not enough to close the document (file) that the app has open. You must explicitly close the file within the app... or open a new file within the app.

Android / Droid Gmail App Hangs on Sending - The Cause & The Solution

Android vs iPhone 4
There's a graph of phone sales trends somewhere that tells the entire picture clearly.
Market share is NOT Sales..... obviously.
iPhone and RIM are both declining like a fast rollercoaster downhill.
Meanwhile, Android is storming straight upward.
HTC Evo has been out 4 days now.... and it's breaking all sales records for Sprint.
The days of Blackberry and iPhone dominating the US market are behind us.
Android Linux has won.

Having an issue with the Bredtech business model.
Having an issue with the Bredtech business model. We provide unlimited support. But....
The support issues we're getting are all in 1 of 2 categories: (1) What is copy & paste? ...or (2) Hardware issues with old hardware.
Not sure how to deal with these issues...
Tell them in advance: Basic computer training costs extra? Old hardware (6-12 yrs old) is not guaranteed to work?
How should I deal with this?

And on the Seventh Day, God Made Ubuntu. All Was Well. 2 Awesome Companies Changed the Entire World this Week!
movement..... A movement of programmers and computer developers all
over the world volunteering and donating their time to create and
improve software.... and then giving that software away... for
free.... as their personal gift to the world... as a gift to all
humanity." One great example of FOSS is the computer operating system that you
use more than any other. You use Web Sites (Linux), the internet
(Linux), Google and all Google services (Linux), TiVo (Linux), Android
phones (Linux), NASA's Mars Lunar Rovers (Linux), and the list goes on
and on and on.... Linux has been continually being improved for about 50 years now....
by volunteer programmers. That's why it is the best in the world. I know you've heard of a company called Google... Another company.... called EditShare ....you might not have heard of before. But... You've read the headlines this week... Haven't you? "Oscar and Emmy Award Winning Video Editor Comes to Ubuntu"
http://is.gd/clL6r (and to get it.... http://is.gd/clLhA ) Some professionals claim it is THE BEST video editor in the
entire world... OF ALL ON ANY PLATFORM. Better than Avid, Final Cut
Pro, etc. It's called, Lightworks.... by EditShare. The reason it lost This new contribution to the world of FOSS... is an enormous game-changer. But... even it.... Pales in comparison to the announcement this
week by Google.... Google announced, at the "Google I/O Developers Conference" this week,
that the new superior, patent un-encumbered, video format for the web,
dubbed "WebM"..... (which, for you techies, is a new name for a
container for VP8 video + Vorbis audio codecs, see
http://webmproject.org )... Google.... BOUGHT IT.... and then they immediately GAVE IT
AWAY..... to YOU. Merry Christmas in May! That's right. They purchased it. Then they Open Sourced it. And
now the entire world is free to use it. Royalty-free. Free Open
Source. And.... Google is currently in the process of CONVERTING ALL OF
YOUTUBE into it this new format. NOW! ( see How to Play WebM
Video on YouTube http://is.gd/clMag ) WOW! Soon..... And When I say "Soon", I mean, "Within a COUPLE OF
MONTHS"...... The entire internet will have standardized on WebM ---
THE FOSS FORMAT FOR ALL AUDIO AND VIDEO. This is HUGE! No longer will there be "MP3 Players"....
EVERYTHING will be WebM.... (for video).... and Vorbis...... (for
audio). Superior quality. And totally Free (as in Freedom). No
royalties to pay some Patent-holder. What does all this mean to YOU.... the average end-user? It means that 10,000 times more programmers and developers and
creative content creators..... from all over the world.... will be
competing fairly.... to bring you new cool awesome programs, software,
apps, and content.... because they won't have to pay huge fees to do
it! Isn't the world of FOSS an awesome thing! People working with, and helping, People. Nothing can beat it! The World Has Been Changed This Week. Mark My Words. If you don't get how big of a deal this is.... Just remember what
I've told you.... And in the future, remember that "you heard it
here first"...

Oscar winning Lightworks Open-Source Video editor –IS- Coming to Ubuntu Linux

THIS IS HUGE NEWS FOR UBUNTU LINUX.

To: <bruce@brucewagner.com>Pete_G (unregistered) wrote, in response to Calvin: For those of you that have never used LW, if it is indeed ported to Linux, you are going to be very happy indeed. I've used it for almost 20 years and can confidently say that it's a fantastic application, especially for straight-forward cutting, where it is faster and more flexible than ANY NLE out there. Don't be put off by the apparent simplicity of the interface, everything you want is there. The GUI is unique and doesn't conform to any other paradigm, there is no menu bar, all menus are context sensitive. It has many unique features; a very powerful, flexible timeline for easy trimming, the ability to have multiple timelines and viewers on screen at any time, analogue audio scrubbing to die for, a fully databased backend allowing for easy FIND functions on large projects and it has always been designed to be used with a special controller that has a STEENBECK like paddle lever to control playing, backwards and forwards at many speeds coupled with user definable buttons for common editing commands such as Mark,Insert,Overwrite,Delete etc. It has always been stable and backs up in the background, invisibly. Only in the VFX area is it weaker than the competition and possibly in it's abilty to deal well with newer file formats, although I suspect it will catch up on this soon. It is so simple to use that it is suitable for both amateur and professional use. It lost it's market to Avid in the same way as Betamax lost it's battle with VHS, not because it was an inferior product but because of many other reasons. Believe me, get excited. Canonical's Big Fail with the Premature Release of Ubuntu Linux 10.04
forced 6-month release schedule rushing the product out the door? Perhaps the thinking was/is that fixes can always be done afterward...
and continuously... HOWEVER, if the darn OS won't BOOT... from the
LiveCD... You've got SERIOUS problems on your hands. How can anyone recommend to their friends an OS which won't even boot
(black screen of death) from the LiveCD...??? I think Canonical is going to have no choice but to do an interim
update of their LiveCD ISO image asap... BEFORE the next release in
October. We cannot have a LiveCD that won't boot... for 6 months... No
way. Not acceptable. What happened to the quality control testing?
This is an enormous fail. If they don't test ANYTHING else... They
need to test that the darn LiveCD boots correctly on every known PC /
video combination they can possibly come up with. Everything else can be fixed with updates... But BOOTING is a total
deal-breaker. Nothing works if you can't boot it, and install it, and
then boot the installation. I'm running a business where I am recommending Ubuntu to everyone.
This is embarrassing, to say the least. I'm just going to have to tell
people that they're going to have to have US install it for them. This
process is nothing that any ordinary user should EVER be forced to
even hear about... much less, attempt on their own. Not to mention the fact that Canonical labeled this release an LTS
release... meaning "Long Term Support". That means that it's
supposed to be around for a very long time. But there's no way it
can be... not in its current form. I hope Canonical's quality control team has learned a valuable lesson
from all of this. And we, the users, might want to learn from this too. I've always
said, the safest place to be is.... six months BEHIND...

Android Sync Running Continuously Nonstop
The synch on my Android phone (Motorola Droid) was running CONSTANTLY... slowing down everything to a crawl! I finally just now went in to my sync settings and discovered what was syncing. The official Twitter client for Android. It was trying to match up the 10,600 followers I have on Twitter to my addressbook!!?!? Running nonstop 24/7. And slowing everything else to a near standstill.

Why Can't Android Developers Get Podcast Playback to Work Well?
I love my Android phone (handheld computer, really).... And I love listening to my podcasts.... like Leo Laporte, FLOSS Weekly, etc.
However, I hate that my podcasts get interrupted almost every time! Whether it's because Stitcher requires an uninterrupted signal for the entire duration... Or because Google Listen is just buggy and crashes....
The ONLY reliable way I've found to listen to my podcasts is MANUALLY! I have to go to the web site of the podcast and manually download the MP3 file (using my Android), and then use the simple Music player to listen to it.
This method works beautifully. The Music player even remembers where I left off in listening to the podcast - even after a reboot!
The drawback is... It's not an app. I have to do each download separately.
Come on developers. This is 2010. You can make apps like Google Listen, Stitcher, etc. work as reliably as the freaking Music player and manual mp3 downloading. No!?!?
I'd love to see a button on each item, which could be touched On / Off.
On - would download and keep a local copy of the complete episode.
Off - would delete the local copy.
This way I could be assured that I could listen to those episodes uninterrupted on the subway or airplane.
The button should toggle on and off like the Star to Favorite.
I just want my Podcasts to download automatically - in their entirety, and play without crashing, and remember where I was through a reboot, and then delete the file when I tell it to.
And I wanna listen to my favorites WITH NO SERVICE.
Music works great. Why can't podcasts?

What institution could be more ANTI the teachings of Jesus....?
In 2004, "the pope" asked for forgiveness..... for....
The ruthless murders... by burning innocent and good people alive at the stake, imprisonment of others for life, and torture of others to secure confessions... in Jesus' name. ...and the stealing of all their money, property, and material wealth... all ordained by The Holy Roman Catholic Church. They called it The Holy Inquisition....
The Holy Roman Catholic Church declared the most murderous and ruthless of the Inquisitionors... to be Saints.
The Catholic Brothels run by priests and nuns in Ireland to provide prostiution services to all men in the country, for the monetary profit of The Catholic Church, by compulsory sex slavery of certain "orders" of "nuns"...
The slave labor and torture camps of The Magdeline Sisters, operating all the way up until the 1960s...
The condoned and abeded institutional pedophelia and sex abuse crimes still going on today.
And only God knows how many uncountable other evil acts we don't know about.
What institution could be more ANTI the teachings of Jesus....?
It's sad and pathetic.
What's truly blasphemy is to invoke the name of Jesus or God in defending the evil actions of the Catholic Royal Empire throughout history.

4.1GB = Ubuntu 10.04 Fully Installed WITH 153 extra apps I love
- viruses
- big brother software extortion
- low budget (free!)
- low resources (requires 256MB RAM, but 384MB is recommended)
- 4.1GB hard disk (including the 153 extra apps I love most) Ubuntu 10.04 ROCKS! It's easier to use than any version of Mac or
Windows has ever been, and cheaper (free!) ....and 1,000 times better.
Trust me, I've used them all... for about 33 years now I've been an IT
pro. Your grandmother can use the new Ubuntu with NO instruction or

I love Google...like a pet pit bull. I love it, but I keep one eye on it at all times and don't let it out of my sight
http://is.gd/bITN5 I don't mind a non-Google-branded phone. There's getting to be just a
bit TOO MUCH Google in my life. That company is so big it scares me. Don't get me wrong... I use Google, Gmail, Google Voice, Calendar,
Docs, you name it... But, given the opportunity... I don't mind buying from a company
without Google's fingers all in it... As it is, Android OS is maintained by Google anyway... And the
Google-branded apps for it are NOT open source. They are as closed and
proprietary as Microsoft or Apple apps. I love Google.... like a pet pit bull. I love it, but I keep one eye
on it at all times and don't let it out of my sight.
How FOSS Development Groups Could Bring in Lots More Money in Donations
developers you know. There should be a free app for Ubuntu which uses the machine's actual
usage statistics to calculate how much you use each application, and
each component of the underlying operating system... Then, matches
that usage time up with the Development Groups who maintain that
code... And offers a list of those groups... with a suggested fair
percentage for each... In other words, if a user ( me for example ), wants to "tithe" --
financially contribute -- to the developers and development teams who
have created this wonderful masterpiece we call Ubuntu Linux and all
its various FOSS applications... I would love a list... showing all
the software applications and components I use most, and their
associated development teams, with a percentage next to each one (
based on my actual usage ). I would then simply decide..... If I want to budget, say, $20 per
month as a contribution, I could break up that donation to the list of
various development teams / organizations... based on my real world
usage pastern. Obviously, Canonical/Ubuntu does not create all the applications that
I use. They are not Linux. They are not GNOME. They are not
Mozilla. etc., etc. etc. Many improvements actually come from
various other different distributions altogether -- like Fedora or Red
Hat, for example. Perhaps the same data that's collected by that "System -->
Administration --> Software Sources --> Statistics" tab thingie...
could be used...? The resulting list could give me a list of the components and
applications I use most, broken down by percentages each, list the
associated development team responsible for the maintenance of that
code, and even a link to each team's donation web page. Thoughts on this idea...?
Why Ubuntu is far superior to Windows and Mac
entitled, "Windows Malware: The final straw that broke the penguin's
back", see http://is.gd/bID1k ) I agree that Ubuntu is far superior to Windows and Mac. However, Jason's case is NOT "...just the reaction of one man to
malware" ...as one commenter stated. Millions of us have abandoned the crapware of Windows and Mac.... and
joined the bliss of Ubuntu. And more and more of us are doing so
every day. Ubuntu is so much easier to use than any version of Windows of Mac has
ever been. Ubuntu has far fewer hardware driver issues than any version of
Windows or Mac ever has... when used on the zillions of different
hardware platform combinations that exist out there. We have been proudly Microsoft-free and Apple-free for several years
now. We have no need to even run Windows in a virtual machine. The new 10.04 version of Ubuntu even does MORE than iTunes does for
iPod and iPhone users. Music can be easily copied TO and FROM the
iPod or iPhone with drag and drop ease -- something iTunes software
still refuses to do. ) ( Of course, even though we all have
iPhones, we all use Android Linux phones now. ) We love Ubuntu so much that I even started a business installing
Ubuntu for the "people who can barely use a mouse" crowd. They
absolutely love it! I give them unlimited tech support too... but
they rarely ever need any help! Bruce Wagner

Standard Partitioning Plan for All My Ubuntu Installs
I'm installing Ubuntu on hundreds of machines -- all different hardware -- and want to standardize things in an intelligent way.
The "remnants" left behind in the /home partition after a fresh install (when /home is a separate partition) , I don't like.
On the other hand, I want to be able to easily reinstall the Ubuntu OS and all apps 1-4 times every six months. That's 2-8 times per year!
It makes no sense to me to backup, and then restore, up to 500-600GB of user data EVERY TIME -- not to mention that it's taking a huge risk of losing that data... each time.
Like you should be, I'm concerned about making my / partition ( which includes /home ) too small. I'm also concerned about making my swap partition too small (for example, in the case of a tower with 8GB or more of RAM, and I want it to be capable of using the Hibernate function).
That's why the "standard" configuration I am proposing is:
Three partitions on every machine:
50GB for /
( where the /home is in this partition too )
10GB for swap
All Remaining Space for /data
On a re-install, the / is formatted (including the /home) , but the /data is not touched.
This way, Ubuntu, Gnome, and all software, finds the / and /home in the same partition, and cleanly freshly installed -- as any normal install would be.
Yet, the users data ( on /data which could be 600GB ) never needs moved because it is never touched.
Of course, I still advise users to backup their data before re-installing the OS, but at least they don't need to restore from backup. And even if they don't backup, their data shouldn't be touched anyway.
Giving the / partition 50GB should easily provide enough space for Ubuntu and all the dozens of apps I install ( grand totalling 9.4GB ), plus another 40.6GB which the user can use for any combination of: additional apps, possible virtual machines, temporary workspace, and/or temporary download space.
Make sense?

My Odd Android Droid Wi-Fi Issue
Sometimes, at home, the net gets VERY slow.
It might be my own network. We do a lot.
I turn Wi-Fi off. It uses 3G. All is good.
Later, sometimes 3G signal flakes out. I turn Wi-Fi back on. It works perfect.
Odd.
It seems like I have to go back and forth.
Go ahead, Tyson, defend the indefensible. (My open letter to Tyson Foods)
To: "Nicholson, Ed" <ed.nicholson@tyson.com>
( Director of PR for Tyson Foods )
Pretty much everything Tyson does.
Has your mom seen any of the documentary films yet?
It's no laughing matter.
How do you sleep at night?
You're job is to lie to the public about the evil activities of this corporate machine!?
Even your email footer "disclaimer" is very telling. You think Tyson can "forbid" me from copying any email from you!?
Secrecy is where the evil hides.
"PR" is propaganda you're paid to spread.
Do you really think that I, and we, the public, are that stupid?
Is there ANYTHING..... Anything at all that Tyson does that is NOT pure evil....?
Maybe we should start there.
Defend actions that are indefensible.
Go ahead.

How to Automate the Customizatio of Ubuntu for Mass Installation
There are eight things I'm wondering if there is any way to automate.... like in a script.... or via a program or something.
They are:
Adding some launcher icons to the top panel
Changing / adding some Compiz Fusion settings
Changing / adding some Ubuntu Tweaks settings
Adding some Firefox Add-Ons
Adding some Firefox "Customize" icons within Firefox to the top to toolbar area.
Unchecking and / or Adding applications to the Startup Manager
Changing the desktop background image.
Changing the Screensaver and Power Management settings.

The Nightmare of Eczema: What Works? What Doesn't? What Causes It? and Prescriptions that Damage Your Skin Permanently
- Alpha Keri Bath Oil (not Keri lotion, Alpha Keri oil): soaking is a bath of it
- Alpha Keri bar soap (not Keri, Alpha Keri)
- To get that much needed sleep, take half a benedryl (or generic drug store brand "benedryl equivalent") every 4 hours. you'll sleep + you won't scratch = allowing it to heal in the night (instead of getting worse). My doctor says there is no safer, non-addictive, drug in the world.
- Aloe Vera - the juicy insides of the leaf, applied topically helps. You can buy a whole leaf for $1.
- If you have a flare up on a hand, try putting on whatever ointment you prefer, then cover it with a disposable latex glove. this should allow you to continue to use that hand, type, etc... and even allow you to sleep with it on... hopefully discouraging scratching or messing with it.
- Sun, or tanning beds, help
None of these things has ever cured it -- except that mystery prescription cream I got back in 1970...A Side Note: Some mention, below, using baby shampoo.... and they have no idea why it works... I can tell you why baby shampoo works. Baby shampoo contains a mild anaesthesia in it! That's why it's "no more tears". People don't know that! They are giving this to their babies -- an anaesthesia -- without their knowledge! ( ...which is probably why it helps eczema... killing the itching/pain. ) EXCERPTS FROM A VERY LENGTHY BLOG COMMENTS PAGE ( excerpts taken from: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf738743.tip.html )The following are things people there have claimed have really helped them... cause: stress"My dermatologist suggested putting smaller injections of the cortisone in the wounds themselves. I had nearly 100 shots on my toes and feet. Yes it was difficult and mildly painful, but nothing compared to what the scratching was doing. I had no top layer of skin. It has been 13 years now, and I have gone thru many more stressful times in my life, but it has not been back." "I find that neosporin works wonders no joke. It helps clear it up and it moisturizes.""Try removing foods from your diet like milk, eggs, and flour. Do this slowly and see if it makes a difference." "I finally go rid of it (all any my new patches) by getting some sun on my leg. It's the UV that does it, so don't use sunblock! I have to be REALLY careful not to burn myself because that would just make it worse, but by getting just a little bit of sun each day (or you can use a tanning salon in winter) and keeping it moisturized, it is completely gone and I have no scars." "I hated the side effects of the steroids. I thought I'd just try the antibiotics alone and what do you know, everything cleared up. I believe eczema has more to do with dealing with a skin bacteria rather than trying to suppress our immune system." "I use unrefined shea butter (make sure it's unrefined - basically just scraped out of the nut and plopped in the jar. do a google search and you'll find a number of places that sell it). It was like a miracle after years of steroids and other lotions and therapies. I've also found that noxzema helps if I get itchy." "Prednisone is horrible!! I also have asthma and have taken it every year. I cried when my doctor prescribed it for me again. I will never take it again, I feel like I am not in my own skin.""The best thing has been mentioned and that is not to stress, or at least find a way that you can destress. It will have to be your own way. I like yoga, cooking and drawing. Especially cooking ;) " "I never eat eggs and I don't drink milk very often. This was true with my late teens so it makes me wonder if I have or had an allergy to them. My son started out just like me with allergies, asthma, and eczema from birth. Not wanting him to suffer I had him tested for the causes of his allergies. He has quite a list but at the top were eggs and dairy products." "It helps me to go to the tanning salon for a few minutes...at first skin is more inflamed, but next day better. exercise helps too. i also get worse with sweat, but after exercising for a week, and just trudging through the worsening, it really gets better. my thought is that the exercise helps with the stress (life stress or just stress of dealing with eczema). also, confronting and dealing with any anger in your life, is necessary to truly recover for long periods of time. I really think that some people get ulcers, some heart disease, some eczema, as a result of genetics and stress. we can't control genetics (at this point), but we can deal with negative stress to at least somewhat help our eczema." "Soak in a bath of epsom salt, peroxide, and oatmeal...with about a capful of tea tree oil.""Drink tons of water to hydrate your skin from the inside out.""She has been feeding herself with pro-biotic and it works wonders. Ed's on a Money Saving Kick. Here's what we came up with... How to Save $400 a Year on Electricity from your Computers, HDTVs, & Phones
It occurred to Ed that we now have 9 computers, 4 smartphones, 2 large screen HDTVs, and various other electronics... all pluggled in and running 24/7. And with summer coming, the air conditioning has just kicked in....
So, we did a little research. We read all about how much energy all these things use. (See one site referenced below.)
Here's what we've come up with:
Go to the dollar store and buy several of those little AC outlet "light switches". They look like a little light switch but they simply turn the power on/off to whatever's plugged in to them.
Use one of these power switches "ahead of" every phone charger, every laptop charger, basically everything that has a "brick" (a transformer or charger). This way you can leave them all plugged in, but switch them OFF when not in use. (Note to manufacturers: Such a switch should be built-in!)
Next, keep the HDTVs off when not directly being watched.
Some computers can be put to "Sleep" well... But some have trouble coming back out of "Sleep" mode reliably. For this reason, I recommend the following:
Instead of just a screensaver (which saves no energy at all), set your Monitor to Sleep after so many minutes. This will save a LOT of money each year.
I don't recommend having your computer automatically go into a Sleep mode (since so many are not able to resume reliably), so I recommend simply doing a Shut Down when you're done using it.
Keep in mind that torrents will stop running, Skype will stop working - obviously everything the computer does.... will stop working. However, if you restart daily anyway, you might as well Shut Down when done... Then, Startup when needed.
If you run certain things 24/7 - like BitTorrent - then leave that ONE machine on... and Shut Down all the others. Set the monitor to automatically Sleep after a certain number of minutes.
According to these sites, a household could save up to $400 per year.... per PC.
That's significant!
Turn off 3 PCs when not in use.... and we can all go on an anual cruise with the money we save!

The Catholic Church Continues to Perpetuate its Own Sex Crimes
The Catholic Church INFURIATES me!
The Pope & Cardinals at the Vatican call it "PETTY GOSSIP".
IT IS NOT PETTY.
IT IS NOT GOSSIP.
HOW DARE YOU!
Words have Meanings. Just LOOK at the words they choose.
Their words highlight their intention to PERPETUATE the culture of sweeping it under the rug and downplay SEX CRIMES OF THE CHURCH!

Linux proven to be FAR more Secure than Windows - on Both Desktop & Server
Read this excellent article:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/10/22/security_report_windows_vs_linux/#execsummary
An excerpt:
"We queried the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) database and the CERT data confirms our conclusions by a more dramatic margin. When we queried the database to present results in order of severity from most critical to least critical, 39 of the first 40 entries in the CERT database for Windows are rated above the CERT threshold for a severe alert. Only three of the first 40 entries were above the threshold when we queried the database about Red Hat. When we queried the CERT database about Linux, only 6 of the first 40 entries were above the threshold. Consider also that both the Red Hat and Linux lists include flaws in software that runs on Windows, which means these flaws apply to both Linux and Windows. None of the alerts associated with Windows affect software that runs on Linux. the alerts associated with Windows affect software that runs on Linux."

Mobile / Smartphone Question of the Month
WHY aren't voice & "3G" cellphone frequencies simply updated with SOFTWARE for switching carriers??
For example, when switching a GSM device from T-Mobile to AT&T...
Or a CDMA device from Verizon to MetroPCS....
Or, when a carrier buys a new range of frequencies - like MetroPCS did in NYC....
This SHOULD all be a "software update" and/or settings...
Why isn't it?

Website Designers: Flash is OVER. History. Drop it like a hot potato.
I highly recommend that you remove all Flash from your site. Flash is on it's way Out. The entire world hates Flash so much, it's intentionally being blocked or omitted on more and more platforms.
iPhone, iPad for example refuse to support Flash.
As a replacement, I recommend either an animated GIF or HTML5.

The Website that Changed the Entire World (Clue: It was created in 1991)
If there was one site that would change the world for ever, it would be the first ever website created by internet pioneer Tim Berners-Lee. It went online on 6 August 1991 offering people help with using the brand new 'World Wide Web', rather modestly described as a "wide-area hypermedia", now archived at www.tinyurl.com/3apuu . If Berners-Lee had known what was to come, he might have added: "This is going to be awesome!"

The One Simple Change Canonical Could Make to Increase Ubuntu Adoption 100 Fold
Since Ubuntu cannot legally play MP3, nor a host of other non-free formats / codecs,..... in the USA,.... what I WOULD love to see the Ubuntu Store sell is: a COMPLETE multimedia license, along with all the proprietary codecs, for use LEGALLY within the USA. But it needs to cost $0.99 ........or $3.99 at the very most.
This would help the widespread adoption of Ubuntu on the desktop in this country more than any other single decision / partnership Canonical could make.
The number one complaint from tech reporters and reviewers, time after time, is always the same: media, flash, Java, DVD, MP3, etc.... "don't work"..... out of the box.
The purchase of the $0.99 multimedia license, and installation of all such codecs, is so important, it SHOULD be included in the actual INSTALLATION process.
Imagine 100 times more Ubuntu users from this one simple change.
And no more "gray areas", legally, for users in Intellectual Property "Police States", like USA.
People complaining that You are sending them Spam? This is a Must READ!
This is VERY important!
A virus must have stolen your email login & password. .....and given it to a spam bot net. .....and your email account is being used by spammers!
Here's what you must do ASAP!
Some computer that you have used to login to Your email account must have a keyboard capture virus..... and it has captured your email login password.
How to Fix This:
(1) Go to a known clean computer (Not Your Own!), and change your email password ASAP. Maybe a computer at your workplace, or a friend's house who knows s/he has up-to-date antivirus software running.
(2) Scan for viruses, all computers you've ever used to login to Your email. I recommend the totally free one called http://malwarebytes.com You only need the free version. Make sure the program finds AND removes all viruses, worms, trojans, etc. it finds.
If you don't do anything about this, your email account will be shut down by your email provider.... and getting it back will be a bit of a nightmare.
Nip this in the bud IMMEDIATELY.
I own a computer company. If you had one of our computers you could not get a virus -- Ever. :)
It's called, http://bredtech.com
Good Luck!

Apple iPhone sues to try to survive Competition / the Death of Intellectual Property
Copying the rounded exterior design and touchscreen interface --- neither are new --- is not a matter of it being simpler to copy than to create. It's a matter of the NATURE of form follows function. It's like a sculptor slowly revealing what is innate --- what FORM will work best for humans.
IP ("intellectual property") Law has done more harm to humanity than any other greed-based law. The IP philosophy results in new, better, more efficient, greater, technologies being WITHHELD from benefitting mankind.... in favor of benefitting only ONE entity instead. Whether through poor consumer design, unreasonable pricing, management incompetence, or simply intentionally buying a patent to SIT ON IT.... so as to eliminate competition and/or milking old inventions for all the profits they can get out of them... while DEPRIVING MANKIND of all benefits.
I thank God that IP is dying a fast death.
Ask any 60 year old where records (music) came from.
Ask any 20 year old where music, movies, TV, audiobooks, eBooks come from.
Modern sophisticated desktop operating systems of the future, like Ubuntu, come with BitTorrent technology built-in. ......for the benefit of ALL mankind.
Sounds drastic, I know. But it's true. IP will die. And we will all be able celebrate its death.

The Next Facebook: What will Replace Facebook
Facebook LITE... I envision something as simple as twitter... NO
applications. Only connections and a status wall for sharing....
But some way to make PHYSICALLY MEETING someone a requirement for them

My Reply to Mark Shuttleworth re Ubuntu One Music Store
Mark Shuttleworth is one of the VERY few people in life I consider a hero of mine.
Today, sadly, I am disappointed.
Re: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-community/+bug/528910
Following is my response to Mark:
Please include a one-button UN-install of the Music Store.
If you don't, we will.
We will never be distributing, nor installing, any copies of Ubuntu containing a proprietary "Music Store"... or any other kind of store.
Make the music store a web site. Make the browser start page take you there.... But building in proprietary Stores, ala Apple, is just distasteful at least, and sickening at wortst.
If we wanted that sort of proprietary corporate profit adware on OUR computers, we'd still be running Microsoft or Apple.
We love Freedom. We love Ubuntu because it works. But we'll be the first to uninstall any proprietary CRAP that gets included, the first to bitch about it LOUDLY, and to drop Ubuntu entirely if it gets to be too much of a chore to uninstall and delete all such CRAP.
Feeling Betrayed a Bit?
We are.
Ubuntu is NOT owned by Canonical, nor by Mark. It is a product of the PEOPLE.
How dare ANYONE try to commercialize it!?
How dare anyone ruin it in this way

The Crimes of the Evil Cult of Scientology, Diabetics, Narcanon, Applied Scholastics, Criminon, etc...
A friend was just asking me, "What's that web site again? ...the one that tells the truth about Scientology?"
You see, her sister, a struggling actress in Hollywood, was recruited into, and thoroughly brainwashed by, the evil cult called, Scientology.
Scientology is pure evil. Not at the lowest levels. People at the lowest levels are innocent victims. They are recruited and brainwashed like an enormous ponzi scheme. At the higher levels, it's run absolutely like the Mafia.
That web site is: http://xenu.net
All anyone has to do is Google the word Scientology. Every web site that ISN'T exposing their evil, is a FRONT organization owned by Scientology. ( They have literally hundreds of front organizations used to either hide what they're doing, or to to try to paint themselves in a more positive light. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Scientology_organizations )
Even Wikipedia has a little info about the crimes, murders, and evil of the Cult of Scientology. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_controversies
They used to be an organization to aid families who were victims of cults. It was called, The Cult Awareness Network. The CAN always reported the truth... The named Scientology as "the world's most dangerous cult."
Scientology attacked the CAN with lawsuits after lawsuits... for years... until the tiny under-funded non-profit went bankrupt.
Then, Scientology then BOUGHT the NAME and the TELEPHONE NUMBER of the Cult Awareness Network.
To this day, if you call the CAN, you will be speaking to a Scientologist who will try to trick you into joining the cult.
Scientology owns slave labor camps all over the world -- even within the USA -- for "members" who refuse orders. Scientology, and top executives of Scientology, have been convicted of, or criminally accused of, almost every crime you can think of -- including murder -- in almost every country you can think of.
Google and read. http://xenu.net

The New "You're OverSharing on Social Networks" Button
A friend was just saying that he wishes there were an OverSharing button on social media. .... to alert people who are posting, "I'm at Chevron now." .....to 78 social networks.
My reply to him:
I once tweeted, "OMFG! A commercial passenger plane just crashed into the Hudson outside my living room window! PRAY NOW!!!!"
I quickly took a photo and tweeted that too.
Within seconds it was being reported by news media globally. Within 3 minutes my phone rang with calls from one newspaper and one TV station. And that tweet was printed in the New York Times.
They called it, "The Miracle on the Hudson"...
Twitter, and all the other networks, are simply what you use them for. Nothing more. Nothing less.
BTW, they already do have an OverSharing button. It's called, "UnFollow".

OMG This is HUGE! "The One Button" for Ubuntu
This is HUGE.....
At this very moment, as I speak, I am in IM chat with an expert (who's identity I'll keep revealed for the moment).... who is creating "The One Button" for Ubuntu Linux.
The One Button is a desktop icon that, when launched, tells you that it is about to install the following long list of media code and codecs. It asks you to "Agree" that you understand that the following code will be downloaded and installed, and that you understand that the code may be protected by copyright or patent or other legal restrictions. You state that you understand that it is your responsibility to verify the legality in your legal jurisdiction, and you have done so, and they are all legal for your intended use in your legal jurisdiction."
Then, if you click Agree, it installs EVERYTHING.
When done, it tells you it was successful, and asks if you'd like to now delete the button from the desktop (since it only needs to be run once).
The reason this is HUGE is that media playback issues -- due to legal trouble due to archaic so-called "intellectual property" laws -- have been the bane of Ubuntu and every other FOSS (freedom-loving) operating system and software package.
Finally, the process of automated installation -- allowing the legal responsibility to fall on the shoulders of the user -- is real and easy!
Linux is a derivative of Unix. Really?
percentage of Unix code. You can still find some of the original
Unix (in the form of FreeBSD Unix) error messages contained within Mac
OS X to this day.... today. Now! Linux, on the other hand, has always contained 0% of Unix code. Unix was closed, proprietary, and solely owned by AT&T and thus NONE
of the Unix code could be used in developing Linux, or the Gnu
kernels. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix ) Remember, Linux (first called "The Gnu Project", at that time) was
created way way back in 1983, way before Unix became open.... (in the
form of FreeBSD, etc.) ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux ) Linux (i.e. The Gnu Project, and Linux.... and then later to be
called, "Gnu/Linux") was created from scratch... What Linux had in common with Unix was ONLY it's functionality. Similar to the way "WIndows version 1.0" emulated the "look and feel"
of the Mac's mouse, menus, etc... Linux only copied the "look and
feel" of Unix. Linux was, and always has been, and still contains 0% of Unix code.
"No business would use Linux. Unless they're super techie to begin with and they'd already know how to use it."
business... and wants some down time before getting into anything
new. I asked him what kind of business. He tells me that it's a business doing IT support services for small
businesses running Windows. And he proceeds to tell me that he's so sick of it... He wants
absolutely nothing to do with computers any more. He's so fed up
with all the problems. I asked him, "Why don't you refer all your clients to me!? :-) " (I
was referring to my business, http//bredtech.com ) His reply: "No business would use Linux. Unless they're super techie
to begin with and they'd already know how to use it." Boy did he unknowingly hit my buttons.... My reply: Oy. OMFG. I thought you knew something about modern Linux on the desktop. I guess you don't consider Google, Inc. to be a legitimate business.
(Google uses Linux corporate-wide almost exclusively. Also, ALL
Google services -- such as Google Search, Gmail, Maps, Docs, Calendar,
Google Voice, etc., etc., etc... all ALL RUN ON LINUX.) I guess that 90% of all web sites in the world.... doesn't count as
"business"... I suppose the entire City Government of the City of San Francisco
isn't an "enterprise". (The City of San Francisco has mandated a
"FOSS First Policy" on all government computers -- meaning Ubuntu
Linux. As an aside, San Francisco is very near Silicon Valley, for
those who don't know.) I suppose Rochester University isn't an "enterprise"... (The
Rochester University has mandated only Ubuntu for all Faculty, Staff,
and Students. No Windows or Mac allowed.) And.... I suppose that several of the GOVERNMENTS of the European Union aren't
as complex as the average American "small business"....??? (Several
of the countries in the European Union have MANDATED that ALL
government offices use Ubuntu only -- no Windows, no Mac.) Then.... since he is an avid Droid user, and loves his Droid
phone.... I had to add this: Do you even know that the phone in your hand is a computer running
Linux...? How did you learn to use it...??? __________ There is an enormous need for education in this country. Education
about the superiority of Linux for business use, for personal use, for
enterprise-wide use. Those old lines about Linux being only for geeks..... are as obsolete
as saying, "Horseless Carriages!? No way! No one would use a
Horseless Carriage for serious transportation. They are only for
tinkering hobbyists who know how to build them themselves." (A "horseless carriage" is what they uses to call cars.)

Making Ubuntu Media Codecs, Etc Totally Legal AND Easy: A One Button Install
Making Ubuntu Media Codecs, Etc Totally Legal AND Easy:
A One Button Install
It should be a well-worded One Button Install from the web, by the user.
Either, "I agree & install all media codecs" .....or..... "Install no codecs"
Doing it THAT way, the distro could be legally distributed within USA & UK all the time....
No?
Could you help me create such a "Button" for Ubuntu....?

EASILY SEND FREE SMS TEXT MESSAGES TO ANYONE WORLDWIDE -- EVEN WHEN YOUR PHONE HAS NO SERVICE!
Google Voice Hot Tip:
EASILY SEND FREE SMS TEXT MESSAGES TO ANYONE WORLDWIDE -- EVEN WHEN YOUR PHONE HAS NO SERVICE
In Google Voice, make sure you have "SMS notification via email" turned On.
Create a Gmail Filter to add a Label called "SMS" to every email with a subject containing: "SMS from".
On your (Droid, Android) smartphone Gmail app... Go to label "SMS" to find the person you want and to SMS him - even with NO SERVICE! ...on a plane or subway or whatever. .....by simply Replying to that person's SMS thread in Gmail!
Your SMS will be sent the very next moment your phone gets a signal!
Pretty cool, eh!?!?
Of course, there's never a charge for SMS because it's email..... and, well, because it's a Droid.
Any questions?
Bruce
Sent from my Motorola / Verizon / Google Droid. (Droid is 1,000 times bettter than an iPhone. I should know. I have three iPhones.)

Threadsy looks cool. Threadsy is what Google Buzz SHOULD BECOME
Threadsy looks cool.
That's kinda what I've always dreamed of. Message unification. So ALL messages can be brought back together again. Similar to how email from all different systems can be sent to all other systems. Every type of message - even sms, MMS, all IM, everything - should come together.
One important factor tho.... spam control. There really needs to be one fullproof button for spam control that not only reports the message as spam, but ALSO creates a local filter so I never see anything from that "person" again.
Really, Threadsy is what Buzz SHOULD BECOME.
....because who else is really in a position to integrate ALL messaging (including sms, mms, and voicemail)..... other than Google....?

I got an answer from the Buzz team.... using Buzz.....
Question: Why do my friends and I so often get: "Oops, there was an error posting your comment. Please try again in a few seconds." ?
Answer: "That happens on Google Reader items that don't allow comments. (it's a permissions issue). We're working on it."

My Take on Google Buzz
Google Buzz.
It will catch on. There is no admission fee. Everyone already has Gmail.
It also has cool features twitter does not have.
I can edit my tweet AFTER I post it.
Linked YouTube videos are embedded automatically.
It's integrated into Google Maps as a "layer" anyone can turn on.
Those improvements, as minor as they seem, have been INSANELY slow to come from Twitter itself.
I think Twitter (the company) has lived in almost a paranoid superstitious fear of changing it... and thus ruining its popularity.
However, analysis paralysis is real. Especially in technology.
Google is being super aggressive with regard to innovative new uses for technologies.
Those bar codes showing up in storefront and restaurant windows... That's gonna be the next "Big Thing".
As a side note:
Imagine if the government started putting mandatory bar codes on every public storefront.... There would be Privacy Rights pickets and marches and riots. But Google....? "OH. Cool!"
Ladies: Don't settle. Don't deny yourself! However...
I'm a gay guy. I've been in a glorious love-filled relationship with another man for - it'll be 15 years this year.
I have no agenda here.... except to help.
I have many many female friends. And so often, their stories all sound the same... I'm sitting there listening to them and thinking, "Oh boy. This story again..." and "Here comes the part when...." ....like a movie I've watched 1000 times.
The more times I hear the story, the more I realize that women just don't get men at all. And not only that, women don't even get THEMSELVES at all!
But it's not just women and girls.... Straight men are drawn to me, to open up and tell me their deepest thoughts and feelings and ask for my advice about their girlfriend(s) too! And from listening to them, I hear the same GUY version of the story.... over and over and over.... like a DIFFERENT movie I've also seen 1000 times before.
Guys are clueless about ladies / women / girls too. And ladies are even more clueless about guys. Sadly, ladies are just as clueless about THEMSELVES.... and how to achieve their dreams... as they are clueless about guys.
So it's a gigantic mess. It never ceases to amaze me that the human species is even able to procreate.... given how little the sexes understand each other.
So anyway..... This little diatribe is dedicated to all my female friends. It's only a tiny little glimpse.... just to barely scratch the surface of this subject, but here's a bit:
Ladies:
Don't settle. Don't deny yourself. Your dreams are valid, engraved on your heart by God. However, the moment you ASSIGN your dreams to another person... The moment you put your dreams on the face of a man... That's the moment you have made a crucial mistake... destroyed the joy... and delayed your dreams.
Your dreams are valid. Your dreams are divine. You are MEANT to live your dreams. (The good ones, anyway.)
However, it is the Biggest of mistakes to ASSIGN your dreams to the face of ANY man.
How DARE you!!! Those are YOUR dreams. What is he? Your new slave? Is he not an equal human being, with equally valuable dreams OF HIS OWN...?
NO! His dreams are NOT your dreams.... No matter how much you want to force them to be!
Who do you think you are? Trying to FIT, and trying to FORCE, your dreams.... onto him....
No. No. No. No. That is not fair. And that is why he will turn and RUN from you.... when you try to do that.
He is a human being. He has his own complete set of dreams. And, no! He should not try to force his dreams onto YOUR face either!
You are here to Live your positive Dreams. You are NOT here to PUT (impose) those dreams onto another human being. You are not here to RECEIVE those dreams FROM another human being -- as if he is Santa and your dreams are a new toy.
God is the source of your joy, your happiness, your peace, your love, and of your dreams..... not some guy.
Do Not Attach a Serial Number to What You Want
When thinking thoughts about what you want.... Don't try to manipulate or control HOW you're gonna get it! How you're gonna get it is none of your business. It's God's business.
Don't assign a serial number to your thoughts about what you want. You want a new convertible red Ferrari. ....fine. But DO YOU REALLY CARE what the serial number is? No! Of course not! So don't be so attached to ONE SPECIFIC Ferrari! Maybe God has an even better one on it's way to you... that you don't even know about.
And No! A man is not a Ferrari! He is not an object your rich uncle can buy you.... and you can own and control like a puppet and puppeteer. No!
A partner is someone -- an equal -- with whom you share an elevator ride with.... Someone you show respect to. Someone you don't judge. Someone you show love toward. Unconditional love.
As soon as that light goes on in your head.... and those female brainwashing lines kick in.... "Oh! Maybe this is THE ONE!" That's the moment it all goes to Hell. That's the moment the love and joy is sabotaged.
WHERE? WHY? HOW? .....is every little girl brainwashed into thinking.... There's gonna be a "THE ONE"..... who will come along and take care of me.... and be THE ONE in my dreams.
No!
If your dreams include anything about IMPOSING themselves onto another human being, they are not divine and true. They are not from God. They are from your own ego's fear.
If your dreams include you being CONDITIONAL in your love. They are not from God. They are not divine. They are from your own ego's fear.
If your dreams include you being JUDGEMENTAL in your love. They are not from God. They are not divine. They are from your own ego's fear.
There is one, and only one, way to achieve your dreams, your happiness, your joy, and your bliss. And that is through PUNL.
Pure Unconditional Non-Judgemental Love
Ladies take note. They are quick to write these words down.
Then they are even quicker to toss them out.... to rationalize.... and to justify..... and to explain..... them away.
They "explain" that, while that may work for you or for others.... You don't understand MY life.... You don't understand MY relationship... You don't know THIS guy...
I've given you the answer. The COMPLETE answer. It is PUNL.
Nothing else. Nothing else. Nothing else. (Thus the first word: Pure)
If you chose to use it, to live it, to be it..... It works.
If you chose to poo poo it and toss it aside and explain why that'll never work.... then welcome the sadness, the pain, the depression.
God trians us similarly to the way we train a puppy.
Perhaps you haven't yet experienced enough pain yet... to learn.... that there is only one choice. And it is:
PUNL

People think the iPhone is easier to use. They are full of it.
Do you really. ..... really..... think Android is more difficult to use than iPhone. ...?
I remember having the DAMNEDEST time trying to figure out how to delete only certain items on a list... you had to go into an Edit mode.... then swipe each item... then touch a Delete button.... Geez.... That was on my iPhone. Not always easy. Not always intuitive.
It's NOT easier.
It's "cuter".
There's a big difference between "easy" and "cute"....

Technology Design & "Getting" what Normal People Want / Need
I just read this great blog article about technology, platforms, interfaces, the iPad, the future, and "getting" what average normal users want...

Here is my reply to it:
This is a great article. And the comments are just as great.
I have been in IT since my first computer, an Apple II Plus. I had one of the first Macs ever off an assembly line. I was head of IS R&D for a Fortune 400 company and single handedly spearheaded the idea of switching the entire company from IBM, DOS, and OS/2.... to this new thing no one had ever heard of.... It was called Microsoft Windows. I knew it would "take off"... eventually.
Here I am today, typing this from my Droid running Linux (Android).
I have always been an advocate for the "normal average person". Just as normal people don't get programming - and they shouldn't need to... Geeks don't get normal people. The more geeky a person is, the less he can relate to average ordinary users.
One of my biggest passions in life is making technology "as easy to use as an elevator".
A second passion of mine is real true "extreme customer service"...
Both are very rare.
A third is FOSS. Users DO care about what's open...... when it is explained to them that music can be copied TO their iThing, but not FROM it... When they are told, no. You cannot run porn apps on an iThing. Why? Because Apple says no. You cannot make free calls and SMS using Google Voice app. Why? Because Apple says no.
Then they start to care.
Once they are burned.
Open systems will beat out closed proprietary Big Brother platforms like Apple and Microsoft. Like the parable of the tortoise and the hare, it will take time.... But....
MARK MY WORDS
Just as I predicted, in the days of DOS, that... "This Microsoft Windows thing is going to catch on!"
I have been predicting for years now:
Linux and other FOSS will surpass all closed and proprietary systems, in the long run.
And it already is happening.
I feel so strongly about all of this..... that I am starting my own company do do just that. Providing a user experience, "Easier than a Mac. Cheaper than a PC." ...as we say.
Feel free to take a peek. http://bredtech.com
Meanwhile, who can tell me:
What's the state of the art in tablet hardware that can run Linux, Ubuntu, whatever open... that could be the hardware platform for the next Open "iPad killer" device...?
If you know, call me!

My Own Masterpiece: The BredTech version 1 customization of Ubuntu
I'm redoing it from scratch.
I've decided Not to go with Linux Mint. (Mint has veered too far from Ubuntu. It really is no longer Ubuntu entirety. No longer 100% compatible with Ubuntu.)
Instead I'll use Ubuntu 9.10
I'll install "The Comprehensive Multimedia HowTo" (from the Ubuntu Forums)...
Then, I'll install ALL the best-of-breed apps.
I'll also add lots of cool customizations like Firefox add-ons, DropBox, etc., etc. (I'm open if you have suggestions!)
Then, I'll do lots of aesthetic changes, shortcuts, menu customizations, etc.
Then, I'll remaster it as a "distro" using remastersys.
Can't wait to get version 1 done to demo for you.
You can give me loads of feedback on how I can improve it.

Rebranding Ubuntu Linux Mint to Make Your Own Little Custom "Distro"
Is it possible?
Easy?
If one wanted to remove all Mint branding on the surface and in name (while still giving all appropriate credit to Mint, Ubuntu, Gnome, Debian, Linux, etc.),
Install a bunch of cool apps and repositories that are not there by default,
Change the look, theme, etc.
Tweak the appearance,
Organize the launch icons and menu in a special custom way,..
... and give it a new name....
(1) Could one do this?
(2) Would removing all Mint branding be easy or hard?
(3) If yes, how?
Also,
(4) Once it's completely customized, is there a way to take an existing installation, and create a bootable DVD image which would reinstall it? An ISO file?
If not, maybe a partition imaging app (something like Ghost).... so that this little mini "distro" could be easily replicated for others...?

How to Wirelessly Synch an iPhone / iPod Touch / Android to Ubuntu / Mac / Windows / Any Browser
incompatible. Obviously. (2) Here's an alternate solution -- one I am using, and I am
recommending to everyone: Use Dropbox. ( shameless referral:
https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTk5MzA1Mzk ) Here's what I do: I put all my Music inside a Music folder within
Dropbox. (In fact, I moved EVERY folder in the Home directory... to
INSIDE my Dropbox folder!) From any iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, PC, Mac, ANY device with a browser... I can simply go to Dropbox.com, log in, touch Music folder, and touch
a track to automatically download and then play it! If you want continuous music.... I simply make my own "mix tape" MP3
files... (long MP3 files that will play non-stop for 20 minutes, or 60
minutes, or whatever... of a collection of my favorite tracks -a
playlist contained in one single MP3 file, in other words.) Touch
that one MP3 file and the iPhone downloads it (Fast!)... I can do this
just before walking down the steps to the NYC Subway and I have
non-stop music for the next hour or two or whatever. To add music or movies: Put them on your computer. (Of course,
everything is within your Dropbox folder!) (Or, you can add them
from anywhere from any device with a browser.) To remove music or movies: Delete them from your computer. (Or
from any device with a browser.) This solution is SOOOOO Simple! I'm sorry, but all the technical configuration recipes listed in the
How To threads in all the online forums.... is far too complex for me
(not to mention my friends who can barely work a mouse!),... AND,
the results don't sound NEARLY as elegant as "my solution". :) Happy Jamming! Use Dropbox. ( shameless referral:
https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTk5MzA1Mzk ) No, I don't work for Dropbox. I review technology and try to find
easier / better ways to do things... simpler. Questions? PLEASE feel free to email me, or telephone me, bruce@brucewagner.com

Life is short. Don't back up your data!
Yeah..... well... Life is short.
I could pay $100 for an external drive, and get ONE copy of my data - not synched.
I paid for the DropBox 100GB option, and with the friends I keep referring, I'm almost up to another 6GB free.
So that's 106GB..... for my household's (and businesses') documents, photos, music, audiobooks, videos, whatever....
Shared. Synched. Backed up. Every Saved Version Permanently Un-deletable. And... Available to me on every computer and smartphone in the world.
I like it.
:)
They give you 2GB free...

We are loving Linux Mint 8.
We are loving Linux Mint 8.
Best part: ALL media just plays...... right "out of the box"..... perfectly.
It's Awesome.
We like the AuroraMint theme, and the panel at the Top, and we changed the Start Menu icon (too many Linux Mint Logos everywhere), but all those things can be changed so easily! Love it!

The Games of Social Media and How to Win Big
I, for one, totally disagree with the concept that so-called "social media" is some sort of a virtual reality game, played to win something.... what!? "to make a name for yourself"? To make sales? Really? To become famous? Really?
Recently I read a big long discussion / debate about which was a better "winning strategy"... Asking people to RT something.... or not. And.... Thanking people for RT-ing something..... or not.
My comments on that were:
It's a simple matter of manners.
But, beyond that, just as you had that tinge feeling of gratitude.... it's about recognition.
When I thank someone for an RT, what I'm really saying is...
"Hey! I noticed that you did that! Even though I may have 8000+ followers, I noticed that YOU did that... and I appreciate YOU!"
No one ever gets tired of being appreciated.
It doesn't clutter anything because, by default, you don't see @ replies to others (unless you follow them too, which is rarely the case).
Being "worthy" is true. But it certainly doesn't mean you shouldn't express gratitude.
I sincerely thank every follower for any and every thing they do which I'm grateful for.
For me, it's not a success formula. It's a much higher principal for living than some mechanical rule to try to win some imaginary game.
The Real Success Formula:
ADD VALUE.
IT'S NOT A GAME.
CONSTANTLY BE THINKING ABOUT HOW YOU CAN HELP THE MOST PEOPLE IN THE MOST PROFOUND WAYS POSSIBLE.
NEVER THINK ABOUT WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU.
BE SINCERE.
EXPRESS GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION ALWAYS.
TELL YOUR PEEPS YOU LOVE THEM.
My peeps know I love them.
I do.
And so do you.
In the end...... one day.... you WILL learn..... that these rules I've written are the ONLY rules that really work.
:)
I love you!
Only Love,
Bruce

A Cute Little Joke
Dear Vincent,I am feeling pretty sad, because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over.. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days. Love,
Papa
A few days later he received a letter from his son.
Dear Pop,Don't dig up that garden. That's where the bodies are buried.Love,
Vinnie
At 4 a.m.. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left.. That same day the old man received another letter from his son..
Dear Pop, Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances. Love you,
Vinnie
